Origin and background

With the growing emphasis on modern, technology-enhanced, and more efficient teaching methods, there is an increasing demand for practical teaching spaces in health sciences. At the same time, the number of health sciences students has risen significantly, making it challenging to incorporate clinical teaching within healthcare institutions. Additionally, the scope of skills and simulation teaching for professional development and lifelong learning among healthcare professionals has also significantly expanded. Consequently, the need for additional teaching spaces has become more urgent.

Preparatory work for the HermÍs project began in the spring of 2023, followed by construction to convert the 2nd floor of Eirberg during the summer of 2023. The development of the HermÍs project is complex and multifaceted, requiring careful consideration of prospective users' needs, the design of teaching spaces, innovations in teaching equipment, and the number and qualifications of instructors.

The teaching space at HermÍs is designed to facilitate diverse practical teaching approaches. The area can be adapted to meet the diverse educational needs of various health science disciplines. This forward-thinking center incorporates innovative teaching methods, such as virtual reality and screen simulation, and is intended for all health science students and healthcare professionals.

Official teaching at HermÍs commenced in January 2024.
